New Book on Asheville Silent Films

Men with Wings Press“Asheville Movies Volume I: The Silent Era” by Frank Thompson tells the story of a forgotten era in film history, covering all movies made in Asheville, North Carolina from 1900 to 1929.

From the “actualities” early in the 20th century, to the films made on the streets of Asheville with all-local casts, to the movies produced by major companies such as Edison, Metro, Selznick and Paramount, this beautifully-illustrated book explores a chapter of film history that has never been written about before.

This entertaining volume features more than a hundred stills, posters, ads and other images. Most of these pictures have not been seen in a century or longer. Some of them have never been published anywhere.
